Talkin’ About May

We have had a lot of rain this month. I thought April showers were supposed to bring May flowers? It seems like April showers brought more May showers. We can’t complain too much here though because the grass is as green as ever (though growing at lightning speed). It has helped our garden sprout the beans we planted and the tomato plants are nearly wilting over that Pop had to put temporary stakes in them.

Aside from trying to manage the garden (Pop does a lot of watering and helping out when we don’t make it over), pretty much the same old is going on. I did plant some flowers on our deck, which I regret to tell you I think I may have over-watered (LOL), but they look beautiful. Went to Southern States with Mom last weekend and we picked a few together. She’s got her own batch going in the front of the house. I planted mine in pots. I bought begonias and petunias. They are pretty. Especially the purple petunias.

We also had a celebration for Daniel’s graduation on Sunday. He graduated from VCU. We had hot dogs and hamburgers and they were so yummy. The taste of a grilled hot dog just melts my soul. Anna and I saw Bridesmaids later that night, which was HIL-ARIOUS. You must see it, especially if you like dry humor. It was a smidge raunchy at various parts, so don’t take the kids, but it was definitely well worth the free ticket. HA!

(Notice the pic of Chip wedged in the bag. Mariah’s stepsister wanted to take him home with her and sneakily tried to stash him away. Little did she know he was going to get stuck in the zipper and require adult attention. Oops!)

I will be 23 weeks pregnant tomorrow! Here is a pic at 22 1/2 weeks. I seriously don’t look that huge. It is just the dress I say!

The Warmth of Friends and a Garden

This past weekend Carrie and Phillip were thrown an Engagement Party by a good friend. It was hosted at a local Thai restaurant where many of their close friends came to wish them a congratulations. Here are a few shots that were taken of the bridesmaids, with the exception of Anna who couldn’t make it.

Also this past weekend, we finished the garden. Carrie and I ran to Merrifield Garden Center where we purchased two pairs of gloves and the finishings of our vegetable selection. The garden now has cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, and green beans. Phillip and Carrie picked a bucket of strawberries from Pop’s patch in the front yard and I grabbed a few more myself and cut them up last night for lunch today.

Many memories have been made in this backyard of Mom and Pop’s with the garden to add to that list. And I have noticed that the grass looks particularly green as of late (probably because of the rain). When the sun is shining and it’s crisp out, there is little satisfaction that rises above gazing at their freshly cut grass and the big tree with the tire swing.

A Lovely Saturday at Mom and Pop’s

Been hanging out at Mom and Pop’s a lot lately this spring. Since Isaac’s gone a lot of nights I go over there and hang, or do work on the garden. But today Isaac was actually off for once and we both went over to garden! However by the time we got there Pop and Carrie had already unloaded and tilled a new batch of compost. Oopsie! :)

We were visiting Mema before we came over and we didn’t make it in time. But don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more to do in the coming weeks when we start planting.

Here’s our lineup: cucumbers, maters, onions. I can’t remember if we are doing any potatoes. There will also be a fruit patch made up of blueberries, blackberries, and a few herbs. The strawberry patch remains in the front yard.

Isaac and I hung out a little while longer and visited. Here are a few pics to update you on the comings along of the garden and some other usual nonsense around these parts. We are nuts!
